Summary
The Apex Predator is a small yellow duck that follows players and quacks incessantly. If it does not have a player to follow, it will wander the map until it finds one, at which point it will stand in front of that player and quack, jumping as though asking to be picked up. If the Apex Predator is injured in any way or picked up by a player, it will transform and start flying, revealing a monstrous appearance and rows of teeth, attacking any nearby player. This phase lasts about 10 seconds before it returns to its more docile state.
In its small duck form however it still poses a small risk, particularly when a player is holding an item, as it will begin jumping and often damages the held item or outright breaks it. Some items can also injure the Apex Predator when it collides with them, such as fans, which can trigger its aggressive state.
Due to its generally low risk nature however, it is advised to ignore the duck rather than attempt to kill it.
It is however, possible to kill the Apex Predator. Positioning the followed player so that they are facing the extractor once it goes off can crush the Apex Predator as it always stands in front of its chosen target. Another method is to face a cauldron in Swiftbroom Academy and have it jump in. This will stun the duck and allow the player a chance to place it in the cauldron again and kill it for a few thousands.
If the Apex Predator falls into a deep chasm it will not be harmed. It only flies back up to a ledge.
Behavior
This small duck will roam around without purpose until it sees a player. When it does, it will start following them everywhere, standing right in front of them at all times. In this form, it is harmless and simply follows you around.
If you try to pick something up, it will start jumping, as if asking to be picked up. If you foolishly do so, the Duck transforms into Apex Predator, and starts chasing you down for about 10 seconds, after which it will transform back into its Duck form.
In Apex Predator form, it is very dangerous, quite fast, and can fly. It deals 10 damage per bite, doing about 3 bites per second. The Duck will also transform if it takes damage, regardless of the source, and will start chasing the nearest player.
Survival Tips
- Honestly, the best thing to do is pretend he doesn’t exist.
- Beware that if he takes any damage, be it from your own hand or an object, he will transform and attack.
- The duck will attempt to keep itself placed on the player cursor, following it and even jumping when the player does. This can be used to either kill or displace it.
- While somewhat annoying, specially if you have bigger ducks to fry, they can be a source of money by killing them. Mind you, not in the usual method, as that just causes them to transform.
- You can also make it not follow you by crouching and looking somewhere that the Duck can't be in your line of sight, such as behind a door frame, in a cabinet, etc. Do this for a few seconds and it will eventually lose interest and wander off.
